How LRPM Academic Coaching Can Help You Reset This Term

The first weeks of term are supposed to feel like a fresh start. New modules, new goals, maybe even a new colour‑coded planner.
But by February, a lot of students tell us a different story: the motivation has dipped, the to‑do list is growing, and it’s getting harder to believe that “this term will be different.”
That’s exactly where LRPM can help you.
What is Academic Coaching (and what isn’t it)?

Our Coaching service gives you a space to step back, take stock, and make a plan that actually fits your real life as a student. It’s not counselling, and it’s not someone telling you what to do. Instead, a coach works with you to:
Clarify what you want from this term (beyond just “pass everything”).
Break down big goals into small, concrete steps you can actually follow.
Notice what’s getting in your way – habits, beliefs, structures – and experiment with new ways of working.
You’re still in the driver’s seat. Coaching just gives you a clearer map and someone in the passenger seat helping you spot the turns.
Common “February problems” students bring to coaching
You don’t need a huge crisis to see a coach. Often, students come with very ordinary but very heavy worries, like:

“I meant to start strong, but I’m already slipping back into old habits.”
“I’m doing the work, but my marks aren’t moving and I don’t know why.”
“I’m juggling work, caring, commuting and study and something has to give.”
“I know I should think about my future, but I’m too busy firefighting the present.”
“I’ve lost confidence after one bad result, and now I’m avoiding my assignments.”
Coaching is about turning these into specific, solvable questions: What would “starting again” look like this week? What’s one small change that would make next month easier than this one?
What actually happens in an online coaching session?
If you book a session with our Academic Coaching service, here’s what you can expect:
A quick check‑in. Your coach will ask how things are going and what’s on your mind right now.
Choosing a focus. Together, you’ll pick one area to work on in that session – for example, planning your week, untangling worries about a module, or preparing for a big deadline.
Exploring what’s behind the issue. This might include looking at your routines, your strengths, your past successes, and the pressures you’re under.
Creating a small action plan. You’ll leave with a short list of next steps that you have chosen and that feel realistic for the next week or two.

Because sessions are online, you can join from home, the library, or even a quiet corner wherever you are in the world – no travel time, no waiting room.
How coaching supports the “whole” student
Yes, coaching can help you manage your time and improve your grades. But it also supports the parts of student life that don’t show up on your transcript:
Building confidence in your decisions and your voice.
Feeling more connected and less alone in your struggles.
Learning how to bounce back after a setback instead of getting stuck.
Making space for your wellbeing alongside your responsibilities.
Student life isn’t just about surviving to the end of the year. Coaching is about helping you build ways of working – and ways of looking after yourself – that you can carry into future terms, jobs, and projects.
Is LRPM Coaching for you?
Coaching might be a good fit if:
You’re not in crisis, but you feel stuck or directionless.
You’re ready to make some changes, but you’re not sure where to start.
You’d like a non‑judgemental space to think aloud about your goals and challenges.
You prefer practical, forward‑focused conversations with clear next steps.
You don’t need to have perfect goals or the “right” words to explain things. You can show up exactly as you are and figure it out together with your coach.
AND IMPORTANTLY - OUR COACHES ARE FULL TIME WORKING IN UNIVERSITIES, AT THE FOREFRONT OF LEADING UK ACADEMIC INSTITUTIONS - SO THEY KNOW WHAT TO DO!
One small step you can take today
If any of this sounds familiar, consider this your invitation to press pause and reset.
Book a first online coaching session with LRPM – even if you’re “not sure what to talk about yet.”
Or, if you’re curious but hesitant, jot down three things that are most on your mind about this term and bring them to a session.
February doesn’t have to be the month when everything quietly slides off track. With a bit of structured support, it can be the moment you gently turn things around.
Lots of love
from the LRPM Team
